Mythri Movie Makers have spent a bomb on Panja Vaishnav Tej’s debut flick Uppena. Vaishnav Tej is Sai Tej’s brother and he is eager to make a mark with his debut movie. Initially, Uppena is scheduled for April 2nd release. However, with the pandemic situation, the release has been postponed. Though there is an ease in restrictions now, theaters opening will take more time to open. The government has issued guidelines that theaters will not be opened until July 31st. Though theaters might be opened after that, filmmakers are skeptical whether audiences will throng to theaters like before.
So, they are looking for OTT releases as alternatives. Naveen Chandra starrer Bhanumathi & Rama Krishna started to stream from today and got decent reviews. Satya Dev starrer Uma Maheshwara Ugra Roopasya will start streaming from July 15th. Many other filmmakers are considering to opt OTT release. It is said that films like Red and Orey Bujjiga are reconsidering the option to have OTT release.
However, there are rumors about the Uppena OTT release as well. Makers have recently clarified that they will wait for theatrical release whenever it might be. They will not go for OTT release.
