Especially, the Kannada film industry which is slowly recovering from the losses created by the previous two waves has no other option but to tilt towards OTT releases. As the year 2022 started on a dark note with a sudden surge in the Covid-19 cases, we bring you the list of films that have high chances to opt for a direct-to-digital release in the next couple of months.
Directed by Raj B Shetty, Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana had a theatrical release in November 2021. The film is gearing up for digital streaming on January 13th exclusively on Zee5. Starring Raj B Shetty, Rishab Shetty, Gopal Krishna, Deepak Raj among others in key roles, the film had a dream run at the box office and its digital release is the most awaited one among the audience and netizens.
Being directed by Shashank, Bachchan 2 starring Kicchaa Sudeep in the lead role is awaiting theatrical release for the past few years. Clearing all the financial problems, the makers planned to release the film in the theatres in 2022 but considering the current Covid-19 panic circumstances, the film has a high chance to opt for a direct OTT release soon.
Starring Priyamani, Tabla Nani, Bank Janardhan, Rangayana Raghu in prominent roles, Vyuha is supposed to hit the screens in a couple of years but due to the financial hurdles for the makers, the film’s release is being postponed multiple times. As per the reports, Vyuha directed by RP Patnaik will be out on any of the digital streaming platforms soon.
Being made under the supervision of director Pawan Wadeyar, Googly 2 is a sequel to the 2013 released super hit, Googly. While Yash played the lead role in Googly, young actor Prithvi is roped in play the lead role in Googly 2. Pawan Wadeyar’s assistance Raj Guru is helming the project. Due to the Covid-19 crisis, the film which went on the floors in 2019 has been waiting for the right time to hit the screens. But the current Covid circumstances indicate that the film may skip the theatrical release and opt for a direct OTT release soon.
Starring Kicchaa Sudeep in the lead role, the project went on the floors in 2017. Being directed by actor turned filmmaker Rishab Shetty, the film’s release is postponed multiple times due to reasons unknown. As per the sources from the Kannada industry, the film has high chances to opt for a direct to digital release soon.
Starring late actor Puneeth Rajkumar in the lead role, James being directed by Chethan Kumar is gearing up for a theatrical release in March 2022 but due to the ongoing Covid crisis, the film may skip the theatrical release and opt for a direct OTT release soon. Priya Anand is the female lead in James.
Starring Yash in the lead role, KGF2 is a sequel to 2018 released blockbuster KGF Chapter 1. Being directed by Prashant Neel, the film is scheduled for an April 14th release but if the Covid situation remains to be same, the film also has high chances to opt for a direct to digital release sometime in this year itself.
Being directed by Anup Bhandari, Vikrant Rona is a pan-India film that is gearing up for a simultaneous release in all South languages along with Hindi on February 24 but the Covid situation remains to be same for the next few months, the film may opt for a direct OTT release. Starring Kicchaa Sudeep, Jacqueline Fernandes among others in lead roles, the film’s theatrical, satellite and digital rights are with Zee Group.
Being directed by Abhishek Shetty, Gajanana and Gang youthful film based on college students lifestyle. The film is scheduled for a theatrical release in 2022 but if the Covid crisis remains the same it will opt for a direct OTT release.
Starring Aditi Prabhudeva and MG Srinivas as the lead pair, Old Monk, a romantic love drama is scheduled for a theatrical release in February but if the Covid situation remains the same, it has high chances to opt for a direct OTT release. MG Srinivas himself is the film’s director.
Starring Rakshit Shetty in the lead role, 777 Charlie is an emotional and adventurous drama that was supposed to hit the screens on December 31st but is postponed due to reasons unknown. Being directed by Kiran Raj K, the film is planned for a simultaneous release in all South languages. As per the last news, the film may skip theatrical release and go for a direct OTT release soon.
