Top 10 Disappointing Movies Of 2024 You Can Skip Watching

As 2024 concludes in a few weeks, the year has been remarkable for the Indian film industry at large. While a few cinematic offerings maintained their ability to entertain the audience, others failed to live up to their promises. Many high-budget, star-studded movies completely failed to impress fans and miserably tanked at the box office. From Kanguva, Jigra to Devara and more, let’s take a look at some disappointing movies of 2024 that failed to leave a lasting impact on the audiences.

Top 10 Disappointing Movies

1. Malaikottai Vaaliban

One of the biggest box office flops of 2024 has to be the Mohanlal-starrer Malayalam action-adventure movie Malaikottai Vaaliban. Made on a budget of 65 cr, the movie could only earn around 30 crore at the box office. Helmed by Lijo Jose Pellissery, the film couldn’t live up to expectations, as its incoherent storylines, absurd action sequences, and overly stylized direction left the audience off the hook.

2. Bade Miyan Chote Miyan

The trailer of Bade Miyan Chote Miyan promised to deliver an action spectacle on the screen. However, the movie starring Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff turned out to be highly disappointing due to its stale execution and poor performance, leaving the audience wondering, “What were the makers thinking?” The action sci-fi directed by Ali Abbas Zafar had a budget of 350 cr but could only collect 102.6 cr at the box office. Therefore, it’s on the list of the most disappointing Bollywood movies of 2024.

3. Jigra

Another Bollywood flop of 2024 has to be Alia Bhatt’s Jigra. The action-thriller movie received a mixed response, with most of the cinema halls remaining empty throughout its theatrical run. The film is about an elder sister attempting to go to any extent to rescue her brother, who has been jailed in a foreign country. The movie couldn’t impress people and failed at the box office. Directed by Vasan Bala, Jigra, made on a budget of 90 cr, could only register a total of 55 cr at the box office.

4. The Family Star

Fans had high hopes for Vijay Deverakonda and Mrunal Thakaur’s family entertainer The Family Star, but the Telugu film failed to resonate with the audience due to its tiresome plot and somewhat misogynistic approach. Helmed by Parsuram, The Family Star managed to earn only Rs 19 to 20 cr, far below its budget of Rs 50 cr. While the film’s songs were a hit, they couldn’t save it from being one of the most disappointing films of 2024.

OTT – Prime Video

5. Thangalaan

Pa Ranjith’s Tamil action-adventure movie was a mess. Landing itself in the list of worst films of 2024, even the star-studded star cast, including Vikram, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Malvika Mohanan, and others, couldn’t save the movie. The slow pace, historic inaccuracy, odd screenplay, and subpar visual effects contributed to its failure. Thangalaan was made on a budget of 135 crore but only collected 46.15 crore net in the domestic market.

6. Devara

One of the most awaited movies of 2024 was Devara: Part 1, a collaboration between Jr NTR and Koratala Siva. This Telugu action-thriller movie was produced on a massive budget of Rs 300 cr and earned above 500 cr worldwide. Despite its box office success, the film was criticized for its length and unnecessary subplots. Many felt that Saif Ali Khan and Janhvi Kapoor were wasted in the movie. Therefore, it is a poorly received film of 2024.

7. Indian 2

Kamal Haasan  returned back with a sequel to his 1996 superhit Indian after 28 years, but it turned out to be a bad choice. The lack of emotional depth in Kamal’s character, the lengthy runtime, and the repeated delays place Indian 2 in the list of the biggest box office flops of 2024. The film budget was somewhere over 300 cr and only made 151 cr at the box office.

8. Kanguva

Another overhyped movie of 2024 was Kanguva, starring Suriya and Bobby Deol . Several factors led to the failure of this Tamil fantasy movie, including overwhelming performances, a poor script, and a boring and weak screenplay. On the other hand, it was produced on a whopping budget of Rs 350 crore, but it couldn’t even cross the Rs 100 crore mark.

9. Khel Khel Mein

Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein also made it to the list of the worst films of 2024. Though the movie promised to bring Kumar back to his quintessential comedy roots, the script’s slow pacing and lack of genuinely funny jokes could not entertain the audiences. With a budget of ₹75 crore, the film couldn’t even cross ₹40 crore at the box office.

10. Singham Again

Despite the movie being the third highest-grossing film of the year, the film suffered from a poor screenplay and sluggish runtime. The sequel to Rohit Shetty‘s hit franchise was made on a budget of 300 cr and only made 380 cr globally, making it a semi-hit. However, over-the-top action sequences with no logic, a forced Ramayana subplot running parallel to the story, preachy dialogues, a weak plot with a lack of depth in characters, and melodramatic scenes make this film the worst Bollywood movie of 2024.
