Tollywood’s February Flops: Can March Save the Box Office?

  • March 6, 2024 / 10:19 AM IST

Tollywood kicked off the year with promising Sankranti releases, featuring hits like “Hanuman” and moderate successes such as “Guntur Kaaram” and “Naa Saami Ranga.” However, “Saindhav” didn’t fare well. Despite a decent start, February turned out to be a disappointing month for both buyers and audiences. Numerous small and medium budget films flooded the screens, but none managed to sustain collections beyond the first weekend.

Among the February releases, the big-budget film “Eagle” failed to soar, while only “Ambajipeta Marriage Band” and “Ooru Peru Bhairavakona” saw somewhat favorable responses compared to the January releases. The rest, including “Siddharth Roy,” “Masthu Shades Unnai Ra,” and others, struggled to draw audiences to theaters in Telugu States.

“Only Ooru Peru Bhairavakona” managed to achieve an average to above-average status, while the rest faced significant setbacks at the box office. With March releases, theater owners hope for better fortunes. Films like “Operation Valentaine” and “Chari 111” are expected to draw audiences, while “Vyooham” lacks substantial buzz.

March also sees the release of films like “Bhimaa,” “Gaami,” and “Premalu” (Telugu dub), generating good anticipation and possibly solid collections. Notable releases later in March include “Om Bheem Bush” by Sree Vishnu and “Tillu Square,” offering prospects for an improved box office performance.
