When theatres were first shut down last year, filmmakers and theatre owners panicked heavily. Nobody knew what to expect, and everyone was just searching for the best solution, all the while hoping that theatres would soon reopen. Theatres have once again been shut down this year, due to the second wave of coronavirus.
A lot of films were scheduled to release in theatres during the months of April, May and June. However, with the impact of the second wave of coronavirus not about to die down any soon, there’s no saying when the theatres will be allowed to reopen again. Withholding films from releasing, hoping to release them in theatres will not work out for a lot of producers, as financial burdens on them would increase greatly.
According to the latest reports, not wanting to face such financial burdens, several producers are planning to release their films on OTT platforms. These films include Maestro, which is the remake of the Hindi film Andhadhun, starring Nithiin; Paagal, starring Vishwak Sen, and being produced by Dil Raju; and Venkatesh’s Drushyam 2, produced by Suresh Babu. The OTT deals for these films are said to be going on currently, and the official announcement of the release of these films is expected to be made as soon as the deals are finalised.
