The Telugu Film Industry was one of the biggest film industries in the country for a long time now, but it had never gotten its due credit, until the Baahubali franchise changed the entire scenario for the industry, by putting it on an international scale. With the Baahubali franchise, everyone started looking at Tollywood for fresh content, and amazing films.
Tollywood is currently producing the maximum number of pan-Indian films in the country, with almost every actor from the industry having a nationwide appeal. The two most anticipated films from Tollywood currently, are Rajamouli’s RRR and Prabhas’s Radhe Shyam, both of which are scheduled to release towards the end of this year. While several production houses from Bollywood are trying their best to co-produce Tollywood films, several others are trying to get their hands on the various rights of Telugu films.
The dubbed versions of Telugu films have a huge satellite market in the North, and a huge market on YouTube as well. Then, of course, there are the remake rights as well, which are bagged by one production house or another, as soon as a film turns out to be even vaguely successful here. On the whole, Tollywood has become a go-to, and a major hotspot for Bollywood filmmakers.
