Tollywood back to square one

The Telugu film industry started functioning normally once again, especially after the second wave, only for a few months now, with the intensity of the coronavirus pandemic having lessened in the country. No sooner did that happen than the new variant of the virus, Omicron started spreading across the nation. The new variant is spreading rapidly across several states in the North, which has resulted in lockdowns, curfews and other restrictions.

As a result, the release of Rajamouli’s RRR has been postponed, and with several other releases in the pipeline, Tollywood seems to be back at square one currently. There’s still a lot of suspense over the release of Prabhas’s Radhe Shyam, which is also a pan-Indian film and needs the Bollywood market to do well. On the other hand, the postponement of all the films scheduled to release in the coming few weeks would once again cause a tricky situation for the industry.

Postponing all the films that were scheduled to release for the summer of 2021, due to the second wave of coronavirus, resulted in a lot of confusion and delay in the release of several films later on. It is now to be seen how things will turn out in the end.
