This Dussehra Remake and Dub Dussehra!

For telugu film industry, Sankranthi, Summer and Dussehra are the big seasons for film releases. For Hindi, Eid, Diwali, Summer and Christmas have become big release seasons. For Tamil, Diwali, Pongal, Summer dominate while Navratri hasn’t been explored by the makers too much. The film release seasons depend on the locals interest in watching the movies with Tamil people considering New Moon day more auspicious than Full Moon day. It’s vice versa in Telugu homes. So Dussehra is a big season for us than Diwali. But this Dussehra seems to be paying more homage to the other industry talent than our very own.

All the Dussehra releases are either a remake or a dubbed film. Many of the makers claiming that they have shot their films in both languages but the essence of the films doesn’t seem to be telugu. Abhinetri, the movie has Tamannah, Prabhu Deva and Sonu Sood in leading roles and the director is a tamil person A.L. Vijay. The film is said to be shot in three languages but how much of the film will appeal to telugu people and how many script changes have been incorporated to please telugus is yet to be seen.

Mana Ori Ramayanam, has been directed by Prakash Raj with Priyamani, Satya in pivotal roles along with him. The movie is made in Kannada and Telugu simultaneously. It is a remake of Malayalam movie Shutter. Looking at previous pictures of Prakash Raj we cannot be sure about the movie being a ‘Telugu’ movie.Jaguar, movie marks the debut of Nikhil Kumar Gowda grand son of HD Deva Gowda and son of HD Kumaraswamy Gowda. The movie is being produced at a whopping 75 crs budget, biggest for any debutant. The movie is directed by Mahadev of Mithrudu fame. But will the movie said to be shot as a bilingual have any ‘Telugu’ elements?

Premam and Eedu Gold Ehe are directed by Telugu directors and have crew that is mostly telugu. But Premam is the remake of famous Malayalam cult movie, Premam. Now even though there seem to be few changes from the original will the movie be seen and accepted as a Telugu original? Eedu Gold ehe seems to be a direct telugu film directed by Veeru Potla. Producers Council once took a decision that they will allow only telugu movies to release for big holiday dates and all dub movies will not be allowed to eat into direct Telugu film’s market. But only 2 films in the said 5 ready to release are directly made by Telugu crew but rest all three are majorly dubbed films.

The makers might say they are not, they are bilinguals but we do know how bilinguals work. Few important places will be named with telugu names and character actors will be changed but the sensibilities will be following mostly the original maker’s ideology but not of the foreign land to them. Well, when most of the other state makers do not allow our big films to see a considerable release during their festive seasons, why should we?
