Theatre Shutdown: Govt Probes Move Ahead Of HHVM Release

Telugu film exhibitors had earlier planned to shut down theatres, demanding a shift from the current rental model to a percentage-based revenue system like multiplexes.

Though the idea was dropped after discussions, recent reports suggest that some exhibitors have revived the plan.

Andhra Pradesh Cinematography and Tourism Minister Kandula Durgesh has ordered a probe into this renewed decision, especially since it comes just days before the release of the much-awaited film Hari Hara Veera Mallu.

He directed Home Department Chief Secretary Kumar Vishwajit to identify those behind the move. According to the Janasena Party, four individuals may be responsible.

The minister stressed the need for transparency and warned against any cartel-like behavior that could harm the industry or reduce state tax revenue.

The government is also assessing the impact on upcoming releases. Fans hope Hari Hara Veera Mallu releases smoothly, especially after past disruptions faced by Pawan Kalyan during earlier film launches.
