Discussions are ongoing between distributors from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana about changing the revenue-sharing model in theatres.
Currently, many exhibitors are urging for a shift to a percentage-based system instead of the rental model, as they are facing heavy losses.
However, some top producers are not in favor of this change, especially since most of their profits come from the first week of a film’s release.
A crucial meeting took place in Hyderabad today involving key figures like Dil Raju and Suresh Babu. After detailed discussions the AP Exhibitors Association and the Telugu Film Chamber of Telangana decided to shut down theatres from June 1st.
Exhibitors made it clear that continuing with the rental system is no longer feasible for them. They have announced plans to approach all producers soon to request support for the percentage system, aiming to find a fair and sustainable model for all parties involved.
