Shruthi Sharanyam’s Malayalam film “B 32 to 44” provides a satirical perspective on body positivity and self-love.
A satire on “the perfect body myth,” the Malayalam film “B 32 to 44” tells the stories of five women and a transman from various social classes and the intense pressure they experience on a daily basis due to their unaltered bodies and their reactions to masculine gaze.
Shruthi Sharanyam’s eagerly anticipated movie’s original trailer was published on YouTube. Several well-known figures from the worlds of writing, politics, film, and media complimented the poster.
B 32 to 44 is also a philosophical investigation into how we inhabit the female body part known as ‘the breast’ and how the ‘breast’ inhabits and uses us. It is set amid a middle-class flat, a few offices, a school, and an upper-class home that belongs to six people who range in class from managerial to working. Each character is connected to the others in some shared social settings, so their stories are intertwined. Each character in the movie overcomes her trauma and finds an anchor to help them move on, giving the movie a happy conclusion.
In support of the Kerala government’s effort to empower women, KSFDC produced the movie. Both movie enthusiasts and social media users have been responding favorably to the film.
A skilled ensemble cast, including Remya Nambessan, Zarin Shihab, Anarkali Marikar, Ashwathy B, Krisha Kurup, and debutante Raina Radhakrishnan, is featured in the movie, which hits theatres on April 6.
