Bollywood’s hitmaker Dinesh Vijan presents “Thamma”. Part of the Stree Universe, this mystical supernatural comedy thriller released on October 21st for Diwali. Let’s see how it impressed audiences and how the Telugu version fared!
Thamma Movie Story: Alok (Ayushmann Khurrana), feeling down about his career, goes on a trip to a forest with his friends to relax. There, he meets Thaarika (Rashmika Mandanna). Later, he finds out she isn’t a normal human—she belongs to a bhetal (supernatural) clan. Why are they there? How are they connected to the human world? And how does Alok deal with them? This is the story of “Thamma”.
Performances: For Ayushmann Khurrana, this kind of role is easy. Except for the small mystical part, he played it effortlessly. Rashmika tried to look extra glamorous. Some people might like it, but it didn’t fit the film well. Her character had potential, but it wasn’t used properly.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s role felt out of place. No matter how well he acted, his character didn’t blend into the story. Other actors did well and suited their roles.
Technical Aspects: The graphics and brightness in Thamma were below par, and heavy reliance on effects affected the impact. Dubbing and song lyrics lacked care, and the hero’s voice didn’t suit the character. While cinematography was decent, the storytelling failed, flashbacks and emotions weren’t set up well, characters lacked depth, and comedy didn’t work. Overall, the director couldn’t make the film engaging.
Analysis: Even in horror, mystical, or comedy films, just having jokes isn’t enough to attract audiences, this doesn’t work anymore. Dinesh Vijan and his team need to understand this, or films like Thamma may go unnoticed. That said, Thamma can still be watched once for light entertainment, and it’s better to watch it in Hindi rather than the Telugu version.
Verdict: Thama offers light entertainment with laughs and thrills but lacks engagement; better to watch the Hindi version for a smoother experience.
Bottom Line: Thamma is an average watch.
Rating: 1.5/5
