Telugu Literary Legend Yeddanapudi Sulochana Rani is no more!

Yeddanapudi Sulochana Rani is a name known for many literary enthusiasts in the Telugu language. They deem her as one of the greatest novelists and she wrote many popular novels that made to big screen as well. She and Koduri Kousalya Devi are two of the early women writers in Telugu literature, in the Modern era to have made the love dramas and social dramas more bestsellers than the usual larger than life detective novels and fantasy novels.

Mainly, Sulochana Rani made a name for herself for writing the colloquial language in novels than the literary and high-standard Telugu, that normally ruled the roost. Her dramas used to be mostly about Independent women and their struggles within the social norms. She wrote a tragedy like Jeevanatharangalu, a comical love story of a young strong woman Meena and a two strong character drama like Secretary.

She wrote many more novels and stories that resemble life and they have been highly appreciated by many. Producers used to rush to her house for rights when they hard that she is ready with w manuscript and she even wrote film scripts for few projects. She later shifted to the US to her daughter’s home and there she died due to cardiac arrest early in the morning, IST, on 21st May. We pray that the legendary soul rests in peace and her legacy will be continued by many young women and men writers for coming generations.
