Telugu Cinema has been going through lot of turmoil with the success rate coming down year by year. Only selected films have been able to make profits while most of them remain cost failures or breakeven at best. Still many producers look to gamble in their own way. While it pays off sometimes, most of the times they end loosing more than making money. Last Summer, Brahmostvam, Sardar Gabbar Singh proved to be biggest disasters at the box office domestically and even movies like 24, did not manage to get the box offfice ringing as expected. Only Sarrainodu and A..Aa ended up being profitable ventures in the lieu of films that managed to hit the screens.
This Summer season, the stakes have grown even higher with a monster budget film, Bahubali2 in the line up. The film with a production cost more than two hundred and fifty crores, was sold for record prices to the distributors in the expectation of it outperforming the first film. While the movie buzz seems to be increasing with each day and theatrical trailer created huge records, the distributors with more than three hundred crores hanging on the film, praying for it to be a grand success than any other Telugu movie.
The season opener, again like last time, a Pawan Kalyan starrer, Katamarayudu audio and trailer did not manage to live upto the hype but purely on the strength of the lead actor’s craze, the pre-business of the movie reached an amount of one hundred and fifteen crores. The advance bookings all over the two Telugu states, gave distributors a hope of recovery. Along with these two biggies, Guru, Mister, Cheliya, Radha, Duvvada Jagannadam, Kesava and Rogue will be hitting the screens this summer season and a total cumulative sum, above seven hundred crores, is riding on these films. Many distributors and exhibitors are hoping for a record breaking Summer rather than a back breaking one like last time.
