Tamil Film Industry Puts Key Demands Before Govt

After the formation of the new government led by Vijay, the Tamil film industry has placed several expectations before the administration.

Producers, theatre owners and distributors say the industry is facing big challenges such as OTT growth, piracy, rising production costs, and falling theatre attendance.

Since Vijay comes from the film industry, many believe he will understand these issues better. Industry members are planning to request reforms to reduce financial pressure and improve the overall working system.

Theatre owners have asked for removal of the local body tax on cinemas, lower electricity charges, and better maintenance support, saying Tamil Nadu is the only state with both GST and an extra tax on theatres.

Producers are also demanding a single-window system for shooting permissions, stronger anti-piracy action, Film City development, and upgrades for single-screen theatres into multiplex-style cinemas.
