Supreme Court Cancels Darshan’s Bail, Orders Immediate Arrest

The Supreme Court of India has cancelled the bail granted to Kannada actor Darshan by the Karnataka High Court in a murder case.

The court said granting bail in such a serious case could allow the accused to influence witnesses and affect the trial.

A bench led by Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice R Mahadevan set aside the High Court’s order and directed Darshan’s immediate arrest.

The court strongly criticised the ‘5-star’ treatment given to him during his earlier arrest, stating that jail officials who provide such privileges should be suspended.

Darshan, actress Pavitra Gowda, and five others were arrested on June 11 last year for the murder of Renukaswamy, who had made derogatory remarks about Pavitra.

The victim was allegedly kidnapped and brutally assaulted on Darshan’s instructions. The case drew nationwide attention, especially after public outrage in April when Darshan attended a movie screening while skipping a court hearing.
