Soubin Shahir has been taken into custody over a financial scam linked to the blockbuster film Manjummel Boys. The case involves alleged mismanagement of the film’s box office earnings.
His father Babu Shahir and associate Shawn Antony were also questioned, and their arrests will be formally recorded soon.
As the High Court granted permission for anticipatory bail, all three will be released on bail from the police station.
The complaint was filed by Siraj Valiyaveettil from Alappuzha, who claimed he invested Rs. 7 crore, believing the film’s budget was Rs. 22 crore.
Later, he discovered the actual budget was Rs. 18.65 crore and said he didn’t receive the agreed 40% profit share. The police submitted a report to the High Court, accusing the trio of cheating.
Earlier, the Income Tax Department raided offices related to Soubin and his companies over tax evasion. Manjummel Boys is one of the highest-grossing Malayalam films, crossing Rs. 200 crore worldwide.
