In a past interview, Sonu Nigam explained why he turned down Pritam’s request to perform “Gerua” from the movie Dilwale.
We’ve all heard the lovely song Gerua, sung by Arijit Singh, from the movie Dilwale, which stars Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Varun Dhawan, and Kriti Sanon. However, did you know that Sonu Nigam was the one who first approached about singing the song? Yes, that is accurate. He had, however, turned down the offer for a serious cause.
One of the most well-known playback singers in India, Sonu has produced back-to-back songs in both Bollywood and other languages. Even though the current generation is exposed to more Arijit Singh music, Sonu used to dominate the charts in the past.
Sonu Nigam previously shared the reason he turned down the song in an interview with Radio City, where he spoke about being reduced to one of the alternatives for the Gerua song from the Shah Rukh Khan film Dilwale. Hass baremein mein batata hoon, kisiko pata nahi. They want me to sing this song, according to Iss Gaane Ke Liye Bohot Der Tak Mujhe Bola Gaya Tha. Already seven logons have passed; Pritam se meri baat huyi thi; and woh bole mein already. Do I truly want to be there, Kisliye Yaar? Aisa nahi waisa nahi bura na maan jao, kuch confused hai. They want me to be one of their possibilities, mere bola bura na maan jao yeh ki. Awoh gaana Jaise Arijit gaa diya tha Gerua toh woh gaane ke liye mujhe bohot der tak aaye uspe.”
But why would I want to be a part of the Swayamvar ki sab khaare rahenge aur unmeinse inhe chuna jayega. Toh aise mujhse yeh bhi nahi keh sakte ki mere gaane ayenge. And I think I should be proud of me that I treat myself with due respect and I don’t want to be reduced to one of the options,” Sonu Nigam further declared.
Later, when Pritam was questioned about the same occurrence in a different interview, the music producer admitted that he never hires senior vocalists for his projects before being absolutely certain of that song since he never wants to cause a controversy or misunderstanding.
