Skanda: Is Boyapati Losing His Magic Touch?

Tollywood Mass director Boyapati Srinu has long been synonymous with true cult mass films, crafting high octane action entertainers infused with over-the-top masala elements. However, his recent works, particularly “Skanda” starring Ram, have raised concerns about the formulaic nature of his direction.

Boyapati made a splash with his debut film “Bhadra” and subsequently carved a niche for himself in the mass film genre. Gradually, he leaned towards delivering loud and crude spectacles, achieving success with films like “Simha,” “Legend,” and “Akhanda,” largely driven by the star power of Balakrishna.

Nevertheless, the excessive violence in his movies didn’t sit well with all audiences. “Skanda” continues this trend with its illogical sequences, excessive bloodshed, and unwarranted political undertones, which ultimately proved detrimental to the film’s reception.

As Boyapati plans sequels for both “Akhanda” and “Skanda,” it’s imperative that he reevaluates his filmmaking style. Uncertainty looms over the sequels production and the participation of actors like Ram. Meanwhile, rumors suggest that Tamil actor Suriya may collaborate with him, potentially prompting a shift in Boyapati’s approach.
