Shine Tom Chacko and seven others have been acquitted by the Ernakulam Additional Sessions Court in a case linked to a suspected drug party in Kochi in 2015.
The court decision was based on blood test reports which confirmed no cocaine use and the prosecution’s failure to prove that the accused possessed the drug traces found at the scene.
Shine and four women were arrested in January 2015 after a police raid on an apartment in Kochi. Three others including an African national, were accused of supplying cocaine.
The trial began in 2018 with 25 witnesses examined.
However the court ruled in favor of the accused due to a lack of perfect and strong evidence. Shine and the others were present when the verdict was announced.
