When she decided to wed Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, Sharmila Tagore opened up about her blended family and the threats to her family’s safety.
The Pataudi family, which includes individuals from many religious and cultural origins, is headed by Sharmila Tagore. With two of her three children married to Hindus—Saif Ali Khan to Kareena Kapoor Khan and Soha Ali Khan to Kunal Kemmu—the Bengali-born actress, who wed Mansoor Ali Khan, the Nawab of Pataudi, in December 1968, had a flawlessly mixed family. She has now spoken candidly about the dynamics.
The seasoned actress recently spoke openly with Twinkle Khanna about her blended family and the dangers her family, the Tagores, had experienced after she decided to wed “Tiger” Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi.
The “Badshah” actress grilled Sharmila Tagore on being the matriarch of a blended family and how she manages them all during their conversation for Tweak India. Before that, though, she inquired about a past event from the seasoned performer. This was a picture of her parents getting death threats when she chose to wed Muslim Mansoor Ali Khan.
Sharmila Tagore remembered the ominous wording of the warning they received: “Yes, bullets shall speak.” She acknowledged that the rumours of her parents receiving threats to be shot dead were true. The seasoned actress spoke about their wedding and the various difficulties they encountered, saying, “My family had planned the wedding at Fort William because they were extremely concerned about what might happen since there were a lot of threats and whatnot. However, Fort Williams was called in at the last minute because some of the baraats who were coming had ties to the Army. They eventually located a large mansion belonging to an ambassador friend.
Sharmila mentioned her blended family during the same meeting and remarked, “They all live in their own homes with their own modifications. Basically, everyone wants to stay in touch. I therefore actually have little to do with it.
