In a big update to the Rs. 30 crore fraud case a court in Udaipur rejected the bail pleas of filmmaker Vikram Bhatt and his wife Shwetambari Bhatt on December 24th.
This is the second time their bail request has been denied. The court said the investigation is still at an important stage and more arrests and questioning may happen so granting bail now would not be right.
The case was filed by Dr. Ajay Murdia, founder of the Indira Group, who accused the Bhatt couple of cheating him of around Rs. 30 crore. He claimed he invested the money in film projects, including a biopic on his late wife Indira, after being promised huge profits. However he said he received no returns.
Earlier, co-producer Mehboob Ansari and a vendor named Sandeep were arrested. Vikram and Shwetambari Bhatt were arrested in Mumbai on December 7th and brought to Udaipur for questioning.
The police are now checking financial records and agreements. The couple has not issued any official statement yet and the investigation is still ongoing.
