A new debate has started in the film industry about whether movie titles should avoid using the names of gods.
The discussion began after the Central Board of Film Certification reportedly asked the team of Saraswathi starring Varalaxmi Sarathkumar to change the title to S. Saraswathi.
This change has raised many questions about religious sensitivity and rules. Recently another film titled Hey Bhagawan was also renamed Hey Balwanth for similar reasons.
Such last minute title changes can confuse audiences and increase promotional costs for producers. Many in the industry now feel that filmmakers should get Censor approval before starting promotions.
This can help avoid controversies, save money and make marketing and release plans smoother without unexpected problems.
