The Telugu film industry is gearing up for a massive release festival in anticipation of the approaching year 2024 and the lucrative Sankranthi season in the second week of January. Currently, it appears that six films are vying for this coveted season, which has raised concerns among trade circles.
First on the list is Mahesh Babu’s “Guntur Kaaram,” scheduled for release on January 12th. Young hero Teja Sajja’s “HanuMan” also has the same release date firmly in place. Vijay Devarakonda’s “Family Star” is set for January 13th, with Venkatesh’s “Saindhav” also locking the same date.
Recently, Raviteja’s “Eagle” has been confirmed for the same date, followed by Nagarjuna’s “Na Saami Ranga,” targeting release on the 14th or 15th. The major concern revolves around whether the Telugu states’ available theaters can accommodate all six movies. The competition among these films might result in cannibalizing each other’s box office performance.
From an audience perspective, it’s unlikely that they will watch all six films, so producers and distributors should consider this when finalizing release dates. Most viewers may choose to watch only the top three films with positive reviews, especially considering the financial constraints of the average middle-class audience.
