Sankranthi 2022 becoming bigger, but will it work?

Sankranthi is a major season for the Telugu film industry, as families come together to watch films during this festival season. There’s a lot of interest in the audiences for this season, which is why every big hero and producer plans to release their film for this season. Despite the coronavirus pandemic, Sankranthi continues to be one of the most hopeful seasons for Tollywood filmmakers.

While Sankranti 2020 was the last time that audiences saw big movies released with the usual hype, without any fear, as it was before the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, 2021 Sankranthi was also fruitful in many ways. The films that released for Sankranthi 2021 also performed well at the box office, surpassing all expectations, and even despite the allowed 50% capacity at the theatres.

Now, huge plans are being made for Sankranthi 2022. Already, four films have been announced for Sankranthi, including Pawan Kalyan and Rana’s Ayyappanum Koshium remake, Mahesh Babu’s Sarkaru Vaari Paata, Prabhas’s Radhe Shyam and Venkatesh and Varun Tej’s F3. Now, even Nagarjuna’s Bangarraju is said to be aiming for the same release date. The shooting of Bangarraju is expected to begin on August 20th, and Nagarjuna is said to be aiming Sankranthi as he expects the foot fall to be high. With so many movies aiming to release during the same time, and there being no guarantee about the circumstances due to coronavirus, announcing so many films during the same time is a huge risk. Moreover, if so many big films release at the same time, Tollywood’s revenue would be greatly affected.
