Sankranthi 2022 becoming a war zone

Sankranthi 2021 instilled hopes in the hearts of audiences and filmmakers as well, as all those films that were released for Sankranthi 2021 did well at the box office, despite allowing only 50% capacity in theatres. Post Sankranthi, 100% capacity was allowed, and the theatre business was once again flourishing. All the theatre owners, who were until then running in huge losses, were hopeful of the future.

However, just as everyone’s hope was rising, the second wave of coronavirus once again led to the shutting down of theatres. After the second wave, theatres in the Telugu states reopened just yesterday, but there’s no clarity over when other films would release. In the meantime, movies are being announced for release for 2022 Sankranthi. So far, four films have been announced to release for Sankranthi 2022, including Mahesh’s Sarkaru Vaari Paata, Prabhas’s Radhe Shyam, Pawan Kalyan and Rana Daggubati’s Ayyappanum Koshium remake, and Venkatesh and Varun Tej’s F3.

While Sankranthi is a big season in Tollywood, there’s no saying how the situations during Sankranthi 2022 will be, with the threat of the third wave increasing by the day. Moreover, 4 big films releasing at the same time would result in a revenue deficit.
