Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s comments about Sekhar Kammula’s heroes have started a debate on social media.
At The Epic pre-release event, Sandeep said Kammula’s male characters do not appeal much to him, though he likes the heroines in his films.
Kammula is known for creating kind, emotional and grounded heroes, seen in films like Anand, Godavari, Leader, and Happy Days.
Sandeep’s heroes from Arjun Reddy and Kabir Singh to Animal, are more aggressive, intense and morally complex. His characters are often driven by anger, obsession and possessiveness.
While both filmmakers have very different styles both have strong audiences. The debate now focuses on what viewers want from heroes, power and aggression or empathy, respect and emotional understanding.
