Savitri an actress who lived in many characters on Telugu and Tamil screens for two decades starting as Parvathi of Devadas in Devadasu, directed by Vendantham Raghavayya, starring opposite legendary Akkineni Nageswara Rao. She went to overshadow the likes of him, Nandamuri Taraka Ramarao and SV Ranga Rao, the brilliant actors ever to grace Film screens.She acted with Gemini Ganeshan, MG Ramachandran, Shivaji Ganesan in Tamil as well. She was the epitome of homely beauty and earned respect of youth while being their ideal lover, wife, sister, mother and even goddess. Her acting life was something great to dream off but her personal life had been full of hardships and heartbreaks. She found solace and mad love, life partner in Gemini Ganeshan who married multiple women.
And she became addicted to alcohol and during her last days she suffered heavily due to alcoholosim and lost huge amount of weight. Looking at her in Gorintaku, her last movie directed by Dasari Narayana Rao, her fans had hard time to even imagine her being so lifeless and pale. There are rumours and allegations about her only successor, her daughter, Vijaychamundeswari, was forced to throw her out of the house due to growing expenditure and slowly, selling of the assets to meet the needs. Still there are stories about how alone she was during her death.
She is today a celebrated actress, and a many viewers still had no one that can even emulate her talent again. Only Saundarya was considered as a worthy successor. Naga Ashwin, the director of Yevade Subramanyam, has been working on the script based on Savitri’s life from over an year and after many names coming into consideration, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, is said to be doing the role finally. The official confirmation is yet awaited from all the involved parties. The movie is to be produced by C Ashwini dutt on Vyjayanthi Movies banner.
