In a major relief for Salman Khan, a Mumbai court has stopped filmmaker Abhinav Kashyap from making or sharing derogatory comments against the actor and his family.
While hearing a Rs. 9 crore defamation case filed by Salman, the court said Kashyap’s remarks appear to be defamatory, abusive and damaging to Khan’s reputation. The court also clarified that freedom of speech does not allow the use of abusive or threatening language.
Salman Khan approached the court seeking a permanent ban on such comments and Rs. 9 crore in damages. On January 30th, the court passed an interim order restraining Kashyap from making further hurtful statements.
The case also names certain YouTube channels and social media content creators for spreading the remarks.
The court observed that no one has the right to defame and mentioned that all has the right to protect their dignity and privacy.
Salman has not issued an official statement on the matter so far.
