Prabhas’ blockbuster movie “Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire” created waves globally, raking in over 600 crores post its release, marking a significant success for the actor post the Baahubali series. However, its recent television premiere on Star Maa drew disappointment, garnering only 6.5 TRP. This low rating came as a shock, especially considering Salaar’s massive popularity.
Comparatively, Mahesh Babu‘s “Guntur Kaaram” and Nagarjuna‘s “Naa Saami Rangaa” fared better on TV, securing 8 TRP and performing well, respectively. The timing of Salaar’s TV premiere coincides with the Indian Premier League (IPL) season, where many viewers are glued to cricket matches rather than movies they’ve already seen in theaters.
This trend might explain the dip in TRP for Salaar, which falls into the category of films better experienced in cinemas due to its impactful nature. Additionally, movies that didn’t perform exceptionally well in theaters often gain viewership on television, but Salaar seems to have missed out on this trend, possibly due to the IPL distraction and its theatrical appeal.
