Saif Ali Khan’s Attacker Reveals Motive Behind Break-In & Stealing

Actor Saif Ali Khan’s stabbing incident has left the entire nation in shock, also raising questions around the safety of residential apartments. The actor’s attacker, 30-year-old Shariful Fakir, a Bangladeshi national who has been arrested, reportedly turned to crime because of extreme poverty.

Meanwhile, according to a report by the Times of India, the accused wanted to steal and “escape to Bangladesh with the loot to help his ailing mother.” Quoting the police, the report further stated that Shariful Fakir randomly chose Saif’s house, and he just wanted to steal from someone rich and escape to Bangladesh.

The report then added, “The immediate provocation for the crime was that Shariful lost a housekeeping job at a Thane restaurant on December 15 when its contract with the manpower agency owned by Jitendra Pandey ended. He found himself nearly penniless. He said as much.”

During the interrogation, Shariful said he had earlier worked at a Worli restaurant before joining the Thane restaurant in September last year. He used to earn ₹13,000 a month and send ₹12,000 to Bangladesh for his mother’s medical treatment. He was caught stealing in August, after which his employment was terminated.

In the early hours of January 16, Saif Ali Khan was repeatedly stabbed by the intruder at his Bandra residence. The actor suffered multiple injuries and underwent two emergency surgeries at the Lilavati Hospital. Saif was discharged on Tuesday.
