After generating more than Rs 1100 crore gross at the worldwide box office, ace director SS Rajamouli’s RRR had digital premieres in the month of June on Netflix. After the film was out online, we saw foreign audiences also heaping praises on the film.
Meanwhile, the latest we hear is that RRR created a record on Netflix. Reportedly, the film has clocked 73 million viewership hours on the streaming platform which is the highest among the Indian films which were premiered on the OTT platform.
Reports also indicate that reputed Bollywood filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s earlier this year released film, Gangubai Kathiawadi even witnessed 50 million hours on Netflix and stood only next to RRR among Indian films in terms of streaming hours. Based on chapters from the book ‘Mafia Queens Of Mumbai, Gangubai Kathiawadi is set in the 1950s time period and showcases the life journey of a girl named Ganga who comes to Mumbai to become a film heroine but due to unexpected circumstances and lands in a brothel house.
Eventually, Ganga becomes Gangubai, of Kamathipura, a red-light area in Mumbai. Alia Bhatt played the titular role.
