In recent years, Telugu cinema has witnessed a surge in youthful buddy comedies. Films like MAD clicked because they captured the fun, chaos, and innocence of friendships. Romanchakam, backed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, arrives with a similar setup but adds a dash of romance and suspense to the mix. Anvesh (Sumanth Prabhas) is an aspiring entrepreneur who develops a dating app named Romanchakam. His life takes an exciting turn when he connects with Mythili (Ananthika Sanilkumar), a young woman from Chennai. Their online friendship soon blossoms into something more meaningful. To meet Mythili, Anvesh lands in Chennai but she ditches and does not meet him. When Anvesh is upset with the shock, Mythili comes back and says she will come to Hyderabad and meet Anvesh. But the moment she lands in Hyderabad, Mythili goes missing With no clues and rising tension, Anvesh and his gang set out to uncover the truth behind her disappearance.
Performances: Sumanth Prabhas carries the film with confidence and delivers one of his most entertaining performances to date. He looks natural throughout and handles both the comic and emotional moments with ease. Ananthika Sanilkumar once again proves why she is one of the promising young actresses around. She brings charm and warmth to her role and shares pleasing chemistry with Sumanth.
The biggest surprise package, however, is the group of friends. Their timing, reactions, and comic exchanges generate some of the film’s best moments. Narendra Ravi stands out and leaves a strong impression. Upendra Limaye performs well, though a few of his scenes feel slightly stretched.
Technical Aspects: The production values are neat and suit the film’s youthful setting. The cinematography captures the vibrant mood effectively, while the background score complements the fun narrative. However, better songs could have made a lot of difference to the story.
The dialogues deserve a special mention as many of them land perfectly and evoke genuine laughter. The editing, however, could have been tighter in the opening portions. The film takes a while to settle into its groove, and trimming a few scenes would have made the narrative sharper. The production design is good but the film is filled with a few logicless scenes.
Analysis: The biggest strength of Romanchakam is that it understands its target audience. It never tries to be overly smart or preachy. The film thrives on the chemistry between friends and the chaos that unfolds around them. The romance is sweet, but the friendship track remains the heart of the film.
Every time the story slows down, the comedy between the friends lifts it back up. The missing-person angle adds a layer of intrigue and helps the film move beyond being just another campus-style romantic comedy.
The pre-interval stretch works particularly well, while the pre-climax and climax provide some of the funniest moments in the film. Though there are a few predictable scenes and occasional pacing issues, the entertainment factor remains intact.
The climax is handled well and the fun generated during this time is hilarious. The young actors and the way the romance is executed is cute. Such films do not need logic to watch as the freshness in it makes for a breezy watch.
Verdict: Romanchakam is a clean, youthful entertainer that relies heavily on friendship, comedy, and relatable situations. It may not offer anything groundbreaking, but it delivers enough laughs and engaging moments to keep audiences entertained.
