Mumbai Police have arrested a fifth accused in the firing incident outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s house. The arrested person, Asharam Fasle was caught in Pune and is accused of supplying the gun used in the attack.
Police said he handed over the weapon to the shooter who is still absconding. With this arrest, the total number of accused in custody has reached five and all of them will be produced in court today for further remand.
The firing took place last Sunday outside Rohit Shetty’s bungalow in Juhu, Mumbai. Police believe the attack was meant to intimidate the film industry as part of an extortion attempt.
Officials said gangster associate Shubham Lonkar allegedly issued threats to several Bollywood celebrities but none have filed formal complaints due to fear.
Although threatening posts surfaced online Rohit Shetty has denied receiving any direct threats. Police teams are searching across the country for the shooter and investigators believe his arrest will reveal who planned the attack.
