Ranbir Kapoor once recounted Rishi Kapoor’s belief that Brahmastra wouldn’t earn a dime at the box office during an event.
Brahmastra, starring Ranbir Kapoor, has been making headlines ever since it was first revealed. It’s no secret that the Ayan Mukerji-directed movie was released last year, but not everyone is aware of this. The renowned actor Rishi Kapoor, who passed away in 2020, and RK’s father reportedly quarrelled when the movie was being made and had little faith in it.
Alia Bhatt and Ranbir were teamed in the movie for the first time, and it was also incredibly VFX-heavy, which was one of the main causes of its delay. The movie also has a significant impact on their romantic relationship. Unfortunately, Rishi’s condition became the better of him, and on April 30th he passed away, leaving a vacuum in the Hindi cinema industry.
During the 2021 motion poster premiere for Brahmastra in New Delhi, Ranbir Kapoor recounted a time when he and his father, Rishi Kapoor, got into a fight while filming it. According to Hindustan Times, he was revealing his character Shiva’s first appearance. RK recalled his father and the late star and stated, “I mourn my father dearly today. He continued getting into arguments with Ayan and me as this movie was being made, throughout the course of the last however many years, and kept asking us, “What are you doing?” “Who makes films so slowly?” Who makes such large purchases?
Ranbir Kapoor also stated that Rishi Kapoor informed him that Brahmastra won’t be a financially successful movie. “Ranbir, you’re not making a penny on this movie,” he said. India mein koi VFX film nahi dekhta, VFX film kaun dekhega.
In addition, Ranbir added, “But I think he’s here someplace. I hope he is happy and that he is smiling. And just to give a little respect to him, if you guys know it, please join me,” he said, before singing the famous lyrics from Rishi Kapoor’s movie Karz: “Kya tumne kabhi kisi se pyaar kiya, kabhi kisi ko dil diya, maine bhi diya” as he kissed the sky.
When Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt’s film Brahmastra Part One – Shiva was released in September of last year, it had a largely positive reception at the box office but ultimately performed about averagely, collecting 244 crores over the course of its theatrical run.
Ranbir Kapoor is slated to star alongside Rashmika Mandanna in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal, which is anticipated to hit theatres in December of this year.
