RGV raises an important question on remake culture

While remakes are continuing to be made across the country, there is no denial of the fact that the remake culture is slowly dying out, as people are now exposed to the original content, with the help of OTT platforms, which offer subtitles as well.

Director Ram Gopal Varma recently commented on the same, on his Twitter account, citing the example of the Hindi remake of Jersey. The film had a really good buzz surrounding it when it was released, and considering the massive success of Shahid Kapoor’s Kabir Singh, which was a remake of Arjun Reddy, everyone thought that Jersey would turn out to be good as well. However, things took a completely different direction, and the movie has now ended up as a major disaster.

Jersey is just an example, as it bombed heavily at the box office. The film’s performance just goes on to show how disinterested people are, in watching remakes. Even in Tollywood, audiences are mostly staying away from remakes, preferring to watch original content, raising the stakes on every remake in progress in Tollywood currently.
