The Kannada film industry has been one of the most overlooked and underrated film industries in India for a very long time. However, the industry is now coming to the central point, after back to back blockbusters. Having said that, here’s a list of the top 10 best Kannada movies available to watch on Netflix.

  • Govinda Govinda

In his directorial debut, Tilak decided to remake the Telugu film Brochevarevarura. Most of the times, films like Brochevarevarura don’t do well upon remakes, because the magic is lost. However, Tilak managed to pull it off, with Govinda Govinda being a good hit in Kannada.

  • U-Turn

Made in Kannada first, director Pawan Kumar made a huge impact with U-Turn which featured Shraddha Srinath in the lead role. The movie went on to become a massive hit, and was even remade in several languages, in Telugu as well, with the same name, U-Turn, by Pawan himself, featuring Samantha in the lead role.

  • Mundina Nildana

A coming of age story, Mundina Nildana is a story where three individuals cross paths with the other, and how their lives are changed forever, as a result. The film was widely appreciated upon release, apart from being a commercial success. The film also received several award nominations.

  • Thithi

Not many stories are made with the kind of subject that director Ram Reddy chose for this film. In this film, Reddy explored the reactions of family members who just lost their 101 year old patriarch. Thithi was a huge success in Karnataka upon its release, and even went on to receive a National Award at the 63rd National Awards ceremony.

  • Ondu Motteya Kathe

The trope of men and women obsessed with astrology has been tried and tested several times in Indian cinema, but director Raj B Shetty explores it in a fun and entertaining manner. The film was even called the Kannada Film of the Year in 2017, when it was released.

  • Nathicharami

Director Mansore chose a very delicate and sensitive subject for Nathicharami, where he explored a very harsh and bitter truth. In the film, we see a widow struggling to keep sane after the passing of her husband, while still wanting to stay truthful and loyal to the memory of her husband.

  • Shuddhi

Shuddhi features three female leads at its centre, an American woman and two Indian women. The three of them, after crossing paths, fight for justice and come out with flying colours. Shuddhi is a film that needs to be experienced.

  • Ayana

Comprising of new comers, Ayana is the story of a young man. With no noted faces headlining his project, director Gangadhar Salimath still managed to create an impact with the film.

  • Nam Annayya

Superstar Rajinikanth’s last film, Annatthe, in which Keerthy Suresh can be seen as his sister, while Nayantara can be seen as the leading lady, is available in Kannada on Netflix. The film’s title in Kannada is Nam Annayya.

  • That Girl in Yellow Boots

Featuring Kalki Coechlin in the lead role, That Girl in Yellow Boots is directed by Anurag Kashyap, and is available in Kannada on Netflix. The film is a thriller film, in which a daughter sets out on a journey to find her father.
