Rockstar and Rani Kii In Prem Kahaani, Karan Johar celebrated his 25th year in the film business. Additionally, it was his first time in the director’s chair in seven years. The film is currently a hit and holds the title of highest-grossing Bollywood rom-com at the international box office. The crowd adored Alia Bhatt’s feminist Rani and Ranveer Singh’s charming Rocky. Dharmendra, Shabana Azmi, and the rest of the supporting actors have all made outstanding contributions to the plot. Dhanlakshmi, a role played by Jaya Bachchan, was another that attracted everyone’s attention. She portrayed a villain in the leads’ love tale and received a tonne of accolades for it. The reason the director selected Jaya ji for that role has finally been made public.

In a recent conversation, the director was questioned about his decision to place legendary actress Jaya Bachchan in’such a terrible’ part. In answer, Karan said that it was on purpose since he wanted to give her a new experience than her previous fulfilling parts. “In actuality, it was a type-defying casting. She portrays herself so beautifully both on and off the screen. She represents my mother to me. As a result, I believed that it would be a fantastic role for her to turn against what she has done when I wanted to cast against type. She is like goody; it was how she appeared on film. So, occasionally, it’s good to change things up,” said Karan.

For the uninitiated, Jaya ji portrayed the matriarch of the family and Ranveer’s grandma in the movie. She disapproved of her relationship with Alia and was quite rigid about following her customs and traditions. She ultimately alienated her family with her behaviour and received no atonement.

Despite opposition from two big releases, Gadar 2 and OMG 2, the movie, which debuted on July 28, is still doing well in its fourth week. In terms of global sales, it has brought in over Rs 300 crore. The film’s humor-retaining approach to dealing with serious subjects including gender role reversal, body shaming, sexism, and more has won over the audience.
