Ravi Babu is known for his unique screenplay style, which some audiences enjoy. However, he hasn’t delivered a proper hit in almost a decade. Recently, he has been making low-budget films, mostly aimed at OTT platforms.
Now, he returns as a lead actor with Razor, a film made on a small scale. With very little promotion, the movie was released today. Let’s see how much it impresses the audience.
Razor Story: Home Minister Kanakaraju wants to become CM and plans to remove the current CM. His son kills the CM and makes it look like a heart attack. A technician, Vishnu, gets the murder footage, but Kanakaraju’s sons kill his family. Vishnu’s daughter Teju becomes the only witness. As they try to kill her too, a man named Razor (Rudra Pratap) protects her.
Who is he, and how he saves her forms the rest of the story.
Performances: Ravi Babu plays the lead and handles multiple roles in the film. He looks convincing in fight scenes, but struggles in chasing sequences and shows limited expressions. Tanish has a small but important role that drives the story.
Veeranna Chowdary appears as the main villain and looks effective, though his role feels routine. Meena Vasu delivers an emotional performance. Banerjee is decent, while the supporting cast and the child artist playing Teju perform well.
Technical Aspects: Audiences have trust in Ravi Babu for his past gripping films, but recently his movies feel limited and made mainly for OTT. Razor also follows the same pattern. Though the trailer promised something new, the film becomes predictable within minutes.
The first half feels repetitive with no twists, and the excessive violence is disturbing. Even the flashback doesn’t add much. Despite a short runtime and no songs, the film feels lengthy with over-the-top action scenes.
Analysis: With Razor, Ravi Babu has once again disappointed. The film lacks freshness in its story and relies heavily on excessive violence, which may not appeal to even the target audience or regular movie lovers.
Verdict: Razor turns out to be a dull and uninspiring film, relying too much on violence and a routine story, making it hard for audiences to stay engaged throughout.
Bottom Line: Disappointing film with excessive violence.
