Finally, Raveena Tandon admits that she was given the chance to perform the AR Rahman song Chaiyya Chaiyya from Dil Se, but she declined.
In the 1990s and the beginning of the 2000s, Bollywood’s top actresses included Raveena Tandon. She also won a National Film Award and two Filmfare Awards, among other honours. She recently disclosed that she was given the opportunity to perform the AR Rahman song Chaiyya Chaiyya from Dil Se, but she declined.
Mani Ratnam’s 1998 film, Dil Se, was released for the uninitiated. Shah Rukh Khan, Manisha Koirala, and Preity Zinta make their acting debuts in the Hindi romantic thriller.
Raveena says, ‘Sheher Ki Ladki’ became a hit. “In those days, it was very easy to get stereotyped. For example, how many people would know that I left a song like ‘Chaiyya Chaiyya’ because I had just done ‘Sheher Ki Ladki’ and after that, I started getting offered only item songs,” she shared.
“And then, it became a norm that if Raveena is there, then there has to be a superhit song, and which I am very grateful for because to date, people also know me for my superhit songs, all of them are getting remixes, they are getting a new life, it’s all working out very well.”
Along with Raveena Tandon, Shilpa Shetty also declined the song when it was presented to her. However, Malaika Arora performed the dance routine. Shilpa, Raveena, and many other actors were first asked to perform the dance number Chaiyaa Chaiyaa, but none of them did, according to Farah Khan, who made this revelation in 2019 at the International Film Festival Of India (IFFI) in Goa. It was performed by Malaika.
