Raveena Tandon feels she thrived in her career

Raveena Tandon discussed how she overcame all of the obstacles to become a successful Bollywood star.

Actress Raveena Tandon talked out about the time in her Bollywood career when heroines were more frequently typecast as simple love interests and shared the secret to her trade.

‘India’s Best Dancer 3’s’ weekend episode will feature Raveena as a special guest.

Geeta Kapur, a judge on the dancing reality show, questioned Raveena about her unconventional casting choices at a time when heroines tended to choose safe roles, saying, “Getting heroine-oriented roles back then usually meant lovely, beautiful women that heroes would fall in love with. You were portrayed in ‘Aks’ in a very distinct and gloomy way. I don’t remember heroines in those days frequently choosing such positions.

Raveena gave her viewpoint on the matter, saying: “You are entirely correct, Geeta. We frequently found ourselves playing roles depicting lovely, rich father-daughter dynamics while dancing to upbeat songs in that age when heroines were wary of being typecast.

“I purposefully chose to work on films and songs that shattered that mould. These projects all deviated from the standard of the late ’90s, whether it was ‘Daman,’ which dealt with a delicate subject, ‘Aks,’ in which I played a wholly negative character, or subsequently the movie ‘Satta,’ she added.

“Interestingly, many of my songs, touchwood, became huge hits, occasionally overshadowing the depth of the roles we were tackling,” the actress remarked. However, I think my career has not only survived but flourished, reaching an opulent pinnacle now with projects like “KGF 2” and others in the works.

My key, in my opinion, is to embrace new personalities and give them life; that is my trade. In our day, obtaining such responsibilities required a significant body of labour, but in today’s society, the trend is towards earlier phases. As charming parts and catchy tunes were the norm at the time, choosing unorthodox roles felt risky, Raveena said.

The participants will go above and beyond in the “Dance Diva Special” episode as they groove to some of the gorgeous actress’s most famous chart-topping hits.

On Sony, “India’s Best Dancer 3” is broadcast.
