Ratna Pathak Shah laments the short lifespan of women in the entertainment industry while sympathising with seasoned performer Waheeda Rehman.
Ratna Pathak Shah, an accomplished actress, is renowned for her candidness. The actress has never held back when it comes to sharing her thoughts on everything that is going on in the world. Ratna has brought up pertinent concerns that require investigation, whether they pertain to upcoming actresses or more established female celebrities.
Ratna Pathak Shah has been in the business for more than 40 years. She not only gained her name in Bollywood but also in television with the well-known sitcom Sarabhai Vs. Sarabhai. Alongside Fatima Sana Shaikh, Dia Mirza, and Sanjana Sanghi, the actress is currently promoting her next movie, Dhak Dhak.
Ratna Pathak Shah recently talked about renowned actress Waheeda Rehman in an interview with Film Companion, even as the actress travels to promote the movie. She mentioned how the ecosystem is happy to give the 85-year-old actress an award rather than a job that would fully utilise her potential, alluding to the recent Dada Saheb Phalke Award.
Ratna Pathak Shah said, “When I see a Meryl Streep (74) and a Helen Mirren (78), I feel if they can do it, so can I. And I’m sorry that a Waheeda Rehman in our country doesn’t get the parts that she deserves. What a fabulous woman, and what a fabulous actress she is! All they want to do is give her a little award and stick her in one corner. Really? Give her a good role for Christ’s sake. Keep the award.”
The actress added that she eventually came to feel that an actress’s career in acting had a finite length due to the dearth of experienced actors in the Indian film business. “We’ve all had to accept the way we look,” she continued. adding to the reality that your body is evolving.
“And I have to accept who I am if I don’t want to play around with it too much. The most eye-opening realisation for me was that, despite how ridiculous it may sound given my mother Dina Pathak’s background, I had believed acting had a limited shelf life for women. that after acting till I’m attractive, I’ll change my behaviour. Ratna Pathak Shah said, “It’s hard to believe I believed that, but I did.
For those who don’t know, Waheeda Rehman last appeared in the earlier this year film The Song of Scorpion.
