Senior actor Chalapathi Rao got into trouble due to his derogatory comments about women, during the Rarandoyi Veduka Chuddam, Audio release function on Sunday, 21st May 2017. The movie audio already became a big hit and the entire team looked like they were celebrating the success already with Akkineni Nagarjuna dancing to the Dhol beats and Rakul Preet Singh and Naga Chaitanya joining him later. In such a great celebration, the anchors tried to entertain by asking the question based on the line from the promos, “Women are injurious to mental health!”
The question was answered by several celebrities at the function in a jovial way and visibly irritated senior actor, Chalapathi Rao commented, “Women are not harmful, they are useful in bed!” The comments created a storm on social media and the whole team, director, actors and producer, Akkineni Nagarjuna had to tweet their responses to the issue and Chalapathi Rao also issued a video apology.
Akkineni Nagarjuna condemned the comments, he tweeted,
” I always respect women personally and in my films/I definitely do not agree wt Chalapati rao’s derogatory comments/dinosaurs do not exist!!🙏”
Naga Chaitanya reacted by saying,
” Respecting women is a way of life for me.The reactions shown on TV weren’t for the statement made.Do I agree with it ?Absolutely NOT !”
Rakul Preet Singh reacted in a long statement saying she did not understand the comments correctly and did not laugh for the comments. She said the reactions were for some other statement and broadcast did not capture their immediate reaction. She said, had she understood she would have reacted differently and would have condemned on spot.
Director Kalyan Krishna tweeted,
“Wt chalpati garu said was his own opinion, i won’t agree wit it, but sorry to every one who got hurt, because it happend in our function”
After so much outburst against him, Chalapathi Rao, issued an apology. He said, ” Don’t derogate my comments, I respect women and I’m surviving as a single parent after my wife’s death! That’s my way of respect to her memory! When I side Pakkalo paniki vastharu I meant beside us not on the bed. Don’t derogate the comment I made and do not take everything in double and wrong meaning. While many try to question me, how come no body is questioning such a stupid question posted at the function by the anchors. I reacted in the way I did because I was annoyed by the question. Anyways I’m sorry for what I said.”
