Ranya Rao has landed in trouble after admitting she learned gold smuggling tricks from YouTube. She was arrested at Bengaluru airport upon returning from Dubai for allegedly carrying jewelry worth Rs. 14 crore.
During questioning, Ranya claimed she received a call from an unknown number on March 1st, instructing her to pick up gold in Dubai and deliver it in Bengaluru.
She said it was her first time and that she hid the gold on her body using bandages to avoid detection. Ranya stated she didn’t know who gave her the gold and insisted her Dubai trips were for work.
Authorities suspect a bigger smuggling network and are investigating further. Meanwhile, Bengaluru police constable Basavaraj admitted helping Ranya at the airport, saying he followed orders from her stepfather, Karnataka DGP Ramachandra Rao.
However, he denied any involvement in smuggling. The case is still under investigation.
