Vijay Devarakonda and Rashmika’s Ranabaali is set to release in theatres on October 16th. Directed by Rahul Sankrityan, the film is a period action drama.
Unlike what some may expect, the movie is not about India’s freedom struggle. As part of the promotions, the team released the first episode of the four part Never Forget Series and explained the film’s backdrop.
Rahul revealed that Ranabaali is based on the Great Madras Famine which took place between 1876 and 1878. He said nearly one crore Indians died during the famine.
Rashmika said she was heartbroken after learning about it while Vijay spoke about food grains being sent to Britain despite widespread starvation.
Rahul conducted extensive research for the film and called Ranabaali a tribute to those who suffered and lost their lives.
