Dhanraj, who started his career as a comedian and later tried his luck as a hero, is now showcasing his talent as a director with Ramam Raghavam. Featuring Samuthirakani in a key role, the film’s teaser and trailer have managed to create moderate expectations. But does the movie live up to them? Has Dhanraj succeeded as a director? Let’s have a look now.

Ramam Raghavam Review

Ramam Raghavam Movie Story: Samuthirakani plays a caring father who wants his son to lead a good life and earn a good name. But his son, Dhanraj, falls into bad habits from a young age, stays jobless, and depends entirely on his father’s salary.

One day, burdened by debt and feeling helpless, Dhanraj comes up with a shocking idea, to kill his own father and use the insurance money to settle his life. How does truck driver Harish Uthaman get involved in this plan? Does Dhanraj understand his father’s love? Ramam Raghavam answers these questions on screen.

Performances: Samuthirakani delivers a flawless performance as the father, completely immersing himself in the role. His emotional conversation with Harish Uthaman in the climax is great. As an actor, he stands out as the film’s biggest highlight.

Dhanraj puts in effort to play a ruthless son, but his character lacks depth since the film doesn’t effectively explain why he turned out that way, making it hard for the audience to connect.

Pramodini fits well as the mother, portraying the innocence of a caring parent. Harish Uthaman shines in a strong role after a long time. Satya’s comedy works in parts, while Prudhvi, Sunil, and others deliver decent performances in their respective roles.

Technical Aspects: Durga Prasad Kolli’s cinematography stands out, with well-executed lighting and scene composition giving the film a polished look. Arun Chiluvuru’s music is decent, while the production design and artwork serve the story but lack impact. However, the CGI rain in a crucial climax scene disrupts the mood, along with other technical missteps.

As a director, Dhanraj impresses as a technician, handling performances and visuals well. But as a storyteller, he falls short failing to establish the father-son bond and the son’s resentment convincingly. This lack of emotional depth makes the drama less effective, leaving Dhanraj with an average score as a director.

Analysis: A character’s journey is crucial for their actions to feel meaningful, and this is where Dhanraj falters in Ramam Raghavam. The son’s character, especially his drastic decision, lacks proper depth.

Though the climax is emotional, the weak reasoning behind the son’s actions lessens its impact. Despite having a shocking core idea, the film fails to deliver the emotional depth needed to connect, making it an average watch.

Verdict: Ramam Raghavam has a gripping premise but lacks emotional depth and strong character development. Samuthirakani and Harish Uthaman shine, while the cinematography and music are decent. However, the weak portrayal of the son’s character dulls the impact.

Dhanraj shows promise as a technician, but his storytelling falls short, making this a film with potential that settles for an average experience.

Bottom Line: A good attempt with a compelling idea.

Rating: 2.5/5
