American musician Raja Kumari, who won over pan-Indian audiences with Jawan and Telugu audiences with They Call Him OG, makes her music director debut with IMPURE, composing alongside Karan Pandav. She also lends her voice and rap to OMG, the Sangeet song in the English-language film, made entirely with a desi cast and technicians.
Impure argues that purity cannot be judged by age-old rules and beliefs, and shows how chasing connection, dreams and passion can be devastating. Directed by Nishanthi Evani, it stars Yashna, Varahi and Sai Krishna. The story is by Varahi Mallipamula, and it is produced by Varahi and her mother, Sridevi Mallipamula.
Director Nandhini Reddy launched the trailer at the film’s pre-release event and wished the mother-daughter producers a grand debut. The trailer promises a bold take on the social issues of today through comedy.
Raja Kumari’s Sangeet song, with Telugu lyrics by Kadali Sathyanarayana, takes on the women-are-too-much conversation and hands the problem back: men, step up to our level instead of dragging us down to yours. Varahi danced to it in Times Square with American dancers. Raja also makes a special cameo in the film, and the screen gets more regal for it.
IMPURE releases in theatres on October 2.
