Director Rahul Sankrityan has urged the Telugu film trade and media to stop using the terms Nizam and Ceded for regional film territories.
Speaking at the Ranabaali event in Anantapur, he said these names carry historical baggage and should be replaced with appropriate regional identities.
Rahul explained that these terms remind people of their past under foreign rule and requested the media to use Telangana and Rayalaseema instead without fail.
The terms Nizam and Ceded have been used in Telugu cinema for decades while discussing theatrical business, distribution rights and box-office collections.
His comments have renewed the discussion about changing these traditional names. It remains to be seen whether the industry will accept his request.
