Radhika Apte spoke openly about how badly old Bollywood romantic films affected her when she was young.
She said the way women were shown in those movies, along with the beauty standards they promoted, made her insecure during her college years. According to her artists cannot ignore the influence their work has on society.
In an interview, she explained that cinema and cricket are extremely powerful in India, so every actor, big or small, has a responsibility. She shared that even small things actors say or do can shape people’s lives, just like they shaped hers.
Radhika said she once believed she wasn’t pretty or ‘perfect’ because she didn’t fit into the film-based beauty ideals.
She added that old romantic films made stalking and chasing look normal and often showed women in a poor light. These portrayals affected her deeply until she later realised they were wrong.
