Ace director Mani Ratnam’s ambitious project, Ponniyin Selvan 2 which released on April 28th has now gone past the 300 crore mark, in its worldwide collections. The film has entered the 300 crore club in a span of 10 days with the second weekend contributing good numbers too.
In Tamil Nadu, the film has done more than 110 crores, which shows the power of the franchise in pulling audiences strongly. Though the majority of the run is summarize, it is likely to do another 40 crores at the TN box office over the next few weeks.
However, it is unlikely that PS2 will cross the collections of PS1 due to the fact that the film has not excited audiences and created a frenzy like the first part. The ticket pressure that was there over the second weekend for the first part is not replicated for PS 2, and that could mean that PS2 could collect close to the 400 crore mark worldwide.
Produced by Lyca Productions banner in collaboration with Madras Talkies banner, Ponniyin Selvan is loosely based on the epic Kalki, a Tamil novel.
